Angle Position On-Axis
The magnetic rotary position sensor product family detects the absolute angular orientation of an on-axis two-pole magnet rotating over the center of the IC. The absolute angular position can be provided in various formats, including PWM, ABI and UVW, or directly read through the host interface. According to the application’s requirements, resolutions from 8-bit up to 14-bit are available. This technology can be employed in high-accuracy angle position detection, high-speed rotation systems and brushless DC motor control. Any rotary magnetic position sensor can replace either absolute or incremental optical sensors, other magnetic and inductive technologies, potentiometers or magnetic switches.
The AS5047U is a high-resolution rotary position sensor for fast absolute angle measurement over a full 360-degree range. This new position sensor is equipped with revolutionary integrated dynamic angle error compensation (DAEC™) with almost 0 latency at higher rotational speed. For increased signal quality at lower rotational speed, the dynamic filter system (DFS ™) reduces transition noise. The robust design of the device suppresses the influence of any homogenous external stray magnetic field. A standard 4-wire SPI serial interface with a CRC protection allows a host microcontroller to read 14-bit absolute angle position data from the AS5047U and to program non-volatile settings without a dedicated programmer. Incremental movements are indicated on a set of ABI signals with a maximum resolution of 16989 steps / 4096 pulses per revolution. Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are controlled through a standard UVW commutation interface with a programmable number of pole pairs from 1 to 7. The absolute angle position is also provided as PWM-encoded output signal. AS5047U are single die sensors and are available in a TSSOP14 Package.
The AS5172 is a magnetic position sensor with a high-resolution 12-bit PSI5 output according PSI5 specification Version 1.3 and 2.1. Based on a Hall sensor technology, this device measures the orthogonal component of the flux density (Bz) over a full-turn rotation and compensates for external stray magnetic fields with a robust architecture based on a 14-bit sensor array and analog front-end (AFE). A sub-range can programmed to achieve the best resolution for the application. To measure the angle, only a simple two-pole magnet rotating over the center of the package is required. The magnet may be placed above or below the device. The absolute angle measurement provides an instant indication of the magnet’s angular position. The AS5172 operates up to a voltage of 16.5V and is protected against overvoltage up to +20V. In addition, the supply pins are protected against reverse polarity up to – 18V.
The AS5200L is an easy to program stacked dual die magnetic rotary position sensor with a high-resolution 12-bit I2C or PWM output. This contactless system measures the absolute angle of a diametric magnetized on-axis magnet. This AS5200L is designed for contactless potentiometer applications and its robust design eliminates the influence of any homogenous external stray magnetic fields. The industry-standard I2C interface supports simple user programming of non-volatile parameters without requiring a dedicated programmer. By default the output represents a range from 0 to 360 degrees. It is also possible to define a smaller range to the output by programming a zero angle (start position) and a maximum angle (stop position). The AS5200L is also equipped with a smart low power mode feature to automatically reduce the power consumption. This device is designed for automotive applications and is AEC-Q100 grade 1 qualified. To enable safety-critical applications it has two separate sensor dies in one MLF-16 (5x5) package with wettable flanks.
The linear magnetic position sensor product family measures the linear movement of a multi-pole magnetic strip. Circular multi-pole magnetic rings can also be used in rotary incremental rotation off-axis applications. This high precision product family allows the user to detect linear movement with a resolution as fine as 0.5μm. All products are aimed at applications which require extreme precision, accuracy, dynamic range and ultra-low power consumption.
The AS5013 is an absolute position sensor for miniature joystick applications with maximum strokes of +/-2.0mm in x- and y-direction based on contactless magnetic sensor technology. To measure xy-movement the sensor needs a simple 2-pole magnet. The absolute xy-position is measured with a resolution of 8 bit = 256 positions and it is provided as a digital value on the serial interface (I²C).
The AS5306 is an incremental position sensor for linear and rotary off-axis applications based on contactless magnetic sensor technology. To measure position and motion a multi-pole magnet strip or ring has to be used. There are 160 pulses per 2.4 mm pole pair length on the standardized quadrature output interface with an index pulse (=ABI-interface) with a maximum speed of 15m/s.
